Important information from the Superintendent

Good afternoon FISD Family,

We had hoped that today's conference call with TEA would provide clarity for us regarding return-to-campus protocols and safety implementation strategies expected for students and staff.  However, TEA postponed that guidance again until a yet to be determined date.  We will pass information along to you as quickly as possible once received from TEA.  Please know that student and staff safety is our primary focus as we develop operational plans for returning to school in August.

The conference call today focused on instructional continuity and expectations for student engagement during virtual, at-home learning.  There were several new expectations communicated that we will be working through in the coming days to unpack and deliver to you in a timely and understandable manner.  One positive outcome from the TEA call today is a guarantee that parents will have the option to allow their FISD children to receive instruction remotely at home if they so choose based on the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic.  There are several more "strings" attached to student engagement, work completion, and grading expectations for remote instruction than were in place during our spring closure this past year; but I am confident we will be able to operate within the parameters established by TEA and still meet the needs of our families.

I pray that you and your children are staying healthy and enjoying some relaxing time with family and friends.

James Hartman,
Superintendent
